The statements of doctor Nurettin Demirkol, who was arrested on charges of "false testimony" in the investigation into the suspicious death of the former leader of the Süleymancılar, Arif Ahmet Denizolgun, have emerged. While Demirkol answered many questions about who called the police on the day of the incident, who was present at the farm, and his phone calls with "I don't remember," he said regarding the moment he saw Denizolgun, "When I went there, the victim was dead. The death was not recent."
With the arrest of Doctor Nurettin Demirkol, the investigation into the death of the former leader of the Süleymancıs and former Minister of Transport Arif Ahmet Denizolgun has entered a new phase. The Bakırköy 3rd Criminal Court of Peace, considering the contradictions between the records and statements in the file, issued an arrest warrant.
"I DON'T REMEMBER WHETHER I CALLED OR SOMEONE ELSE CALLED"
During the prosecutor's questioning, Demirkol was asked about the findings in the call records indicating that he had called the police and gendarmerie, despite previously stating he did not know who had called the health teams and police. Demirkol responded, "On the day of the incident, I don't remember whether I called or someone else called. Someone else might have called from my phone." Admitting that he spoke with the police several times, Demirkol said he did not remember whether he had made the initial report himself.
"I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER A PATIENT I FOLLOWED A WEEK AGO"
The prosecutor's office also asked Demirkol why he could not remember who made the report, despite recalling his phone conversations. Demirkol replied to this question, "I don't even remember a patient I was following up on a week ago. Therefore, it is quite natural that I could not remember this." The file also noted that Demirkol claimed he was at his home in Kısıklı on the day of the incident, but HTS records showed no cell tower registration from Kısıklı for approximately two days. Demirkol, however, stated, "It is impossible for me not to have any tower registration for 2 days. I was at my residence that day."
PEOPLE AT THE FARM WERE ALSO ASKED ABOUT
During the questioning, discrepancies in previous statements regarding individuals determined to have been at the scene were also brought up. Demirkol, stating he did not remember whether Hilmi Tuna Kuriş was present at the scene, said, "Many people came and went to the farm that day. Therefore, it is normal that I could not remember." Demirkol also could not give clear answers to questions about whether Ahmet Yum, Ahmet Gökçen, and Alihan Kuriş had come to the farm, emphasizing that approximately 10 years had passed.
"THE WORD LIE UPSETS ME"
During the judge's questioning, Demirkol rejected the accusations, defending himself by saying, "The word lie upsets me." Demirkol stated, "When I look at it as a doctor, a patient cannot tell me clearly, so I cannot remember events from 10 years ago clearly," while also noting that many people were seen on the day of the incident and the environment was chaotic. Stating that Arif Ahmet Denizolgun was already dead when he saw him, Demirkol said, "When I arrived, the victim was dead. The death was not recent."
THE COURT POINTED OUT THE CONTRADICTIONS
The Bakırköy 3rd Criminal Court of Peace stated that there were contradictions among the HTS reports, Demirkol's statements given as a witness, the testimonies of other witnesses, and the law enforcement records. The court, deeming that there was strong evidence of suspicion of a crime and that judicial control would be insufficient, decided to arrest Nurettin Demirkol on the charge of "false testimony." The investigation continues to shed light on all aspects of Arif Ahmet Denizolgun's death.
