It emerged that the photo, which allegedly showed Umutcan Baba, detained in connection with the attack that killed Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi in Kadıköy, Istanbul, hugging his mother in prison and sparked outrage on social media, was entirely for disinformation purposes.
The judicial process continues following the tragic incident that occurred in Istanbul's Kadıköy district on January 24, 2025, resulting in the loss of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi's life.
In recent days, a photo shared on some internet news sites and social media platforms regarding the convict Umutcan Baba, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the incident, has sparked a major public debate.
“HOLIDAY VISIT WAS MADE, BUT TAKING A PHOTO IS IMPOSSIBLE”
An official statement has been released regarding the photo allegedly showing Baba embracing his mother in prison. The statement noted: “It has been detected that in recent days, on some social media platforms (X-Twitter) and internet news sites, a photo allegedly depicting Umutcan Baba, who is detained in relation to the incident that occurred in Istanbul Kadıköy on January 24, 2025, and resulted in the death of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, embracing his mother in prison has been shared.
Investigations conducted following the outrage caused by these shares in the public opinion revealed that;
The detained Umutcan Baba used his holiday open visit right on May 29, 2026, within the scope of current legislation, and that his mother Şerife Baba, father İmdat Baba, and siblings Muhammed Kerim Baba and Abdurrahman Baba attended this visit.
“ENTIRELY FOR DISINFORMATION PURPOSES”
