Following the school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, while inspections have been tightened across Turkey, it has been alleged that some schools in Gaziantep have requested 'security personnel' fees from parents.

The armed school attacks that took place in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş ignited a different debate in Gaziantep.

It was claimed that through messages sent to parents from some schools, a fee was requested on the grounds of "security personnel employment" and the bill was passed on to families.

ALLEGATION OF "FEES REQUESTED FROM PARENTS"

In messages alleged to have been sent to parents by school administrations and parent-teacher associations, direct reference was seen to the tragic events in the region. In a message alleged to have been sent to parents from one school, the following statements were included: "Dear parents, The grave incidents that first occurred in Şanlıurfa Siverek and later in Kahramanmaraş have plunged us into deep sorrow as much as they have you... For the safety of our children, it is planned to assign security personnel at our school. In this context, a contribution fee of 400 TL is requested until the end of the term."

"SIBLING DISCOUNT" WAS ALSO MADE

In another message alleged to have been sent from a different school, it was seen that the security fee was requested based on a "tariff." According to the allegation, while 600 TL per year per student was requested for security personnel fees, a "discount" was given to families with more than one child.

In the message stated to have been sent to parents, the expressions were used: "You can send the security fees with the students or to the parent-teacher association account. For each student, it is 300 for the first term and 300 lira for the second term. For students who have at least one sibling at the school, it is 250 lira."
