Citizens in the Etimesgut district of Ankara claimed that the call to prayer (azan) was not recited in the municipality's mosque. It was alleged that the CHP-led administration banned the azan due to a nearby daycare. However, the municipality stated that the sound system was malfunctioning.
CLAIM THAT AZAN WAS BANNED DUE TO DAYCARE
Some citizens who went to pray in the mosque located within the Devlet Bahçeli Education, Sports, and Life Center in the Etimesgut district of Ankara noticed that the sound of the azan was not heard while the azan was being recited in other mosques. Local residents claimed that the reason for the absence of the azan was due to the new administration in Etimesgut, which had transitioned from the AK Party to the Republican People's Party (CHP) after the March 31 local elections, stating that the children in the nearby daycare were disturbed.
SOUND SYSTEM WAS MALFUNCTIONING
According to information obtained from municipal sources, the claims do not reflect the truth, and it was stated that the issue was due to a malfunction in the sound system within the mosque.
One local resident noted that while the azan was being recited in other mosques, it was not recited in the mosque, stating, "The new administration says the azan is not recited because the children in the daycare are disturbed, but that has nothing to do with it. The new CHP president must have made a decision. They say it's a malfunction, but we heard that it is not recited due to pressure from above. It's very shameful, but they do not accept that the CHP is against the azan, yet this is a live example," he commented.
