DECISION OF NO PROSECUTION FOR 5 SUSPECTS

Following the incident, an investigation was launched by the Sürmene Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In the initial investigation, Emre A., Nihat S., Murat D., Tayfun K., and Yusuf Ö. were considered suspects due to determinations at and near the crime scene, social media shares, and their possible connections with the weapon and ammunition considered to have been used in the incident. However, because sufficient evidence to create suspicion could not be obtained, the Sürmene Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a decision of no prosecution for the suspects on August 4, 2020.

FILE REEXAMINED

After the establishment of the 'Directorate of Investigation of Unsolved Crimes' within the General Directorate of Criminal Affairs of the Ministry of Justice on April 24, 2026, unsolved case files were taken into evaluation. Within this scope, the file regarding the attack on the Fenerbahçe delegation was also reexamined. With the official report dated June 2, 2026, from the Sürmene Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the file was sent to the Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. With the decision of the Trabzon 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace dated June 9, 2026, a restriction decision was made on the file.

NEW HTS AND BASE STATION ANALYSES CONDUCTED

Within the scope of the investigation, new HTS and base station analyses were conducted for 6 base stations belonging to 3 different GSM operators. Based on the new evidence obtained, the decision of no prosecution issued in 2020 was lifted with the decision of the Trabzon 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace dated July 17, 2026. HTS records containing base station data for 54 different ID numbers requested from the Information Technologies Institution were also taken into examination. In the study, the movements of individuals who were in contact with each other before the incident, whose communications were cut off at the time of the incident, and who re-established contact after the incident were examined. The base stations from which the football players on the Fenerbahçe bus received signals were also used as criteria in the analysis.

NEW FINDINGS REGARDING BASE STATION RECORDS

According to the investigation file, in his statement given as an informant on June 5, 2015, Yusuf Ö. said he was at home at the time of the incident and learned of the attack from his brother. However, in the new examination, it was determined that Yusuf Ö. received a signal from the base station from which the football players on the Fenerbahçe bus received signals at the time of the incident. It was determined that Emiral A., Hakan H., and Özgür E., with whom Yusuf Ö. was in contact just before the attack, gave base signals from the coastal road route in the Of district, which is on the route of the Fenerbahçe bus coming from Rize. It was determined that Yusuf Ö., Emiral A., Hakan H., and Özgür E. were in frequent contact with each other before and after the incident; and Özden Recep K. also had contact with Hakan H. and Emiral A. closer to the time of the incident. Based on these determinations, a detention decision was made for the 5 suspects.

In simultaneous raids organized by teams from the Trabzon Police Department Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch Directorate, suspects Yusuf Ö., Emiral A., Özgür E., and Hakan H. were caught and detained. After their procedures at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse. The suspects, whose statements were taken by the public prosecutor, were brought before the duty criminal judgeship of peace. It was reported that the procedures for the 4 suspects were ongoing. Meanwhile, search efforts for the fugitive suspect Özden Recep K. also continue.
