"INTERFERENCE IN IRAQ'S INTERNAL AFFAIRS"

The Coordination Framework described Trump's statements as "a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and interference in internal affairs."

Stating that they continue to support al-Maliki for the prime ministership in the upcoming government, the Coordination Framework expressed that al-Maliki has the capacity to form a government if appointed by the president to be elected by parliament.

The Coordination Framework also emphasized the necessity of holding a parliamentary session next week to elect the president and reaching an agreement on a common candidate for the presidency by achieving consensus among Kurdish parties.

WHAT DID TRUMP SAY?

In a statement yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump said, "I hear that Iraq could make a very bad choice by re-electing Nuri Kamil al-Maliki as prime minister. When al-Maliki was last in power, the country was plunged into poverty and complete chaos. This must not be allowed to happen again. Because of his crazy policies and ideologies, if he is elected, the U.S. will no longer help Iraq, and if we do not help, Iraq will have zero chance of success, prosperity, or freedom."
