In Ankara, Kazım Ö. threw their 4-month-old baby onto the glass coffee table after his wife Hande Ö. expressed her desire to go to her mother's house following an argument. The injured baby was treated in the hospital, and upon Hande Ö.'s complaint, a restraining order was issued against her husband for 2 months.
On January 12, an incident occurred in the Ufuktepe neighborhood of the Keçiören district in Ankara, where Kazım Ö. came home drunk in the evening and told his wife Hande Ö. that his mother would stay with them for a while. Hande Ö. said she was tired and wanted to go to her own mother's house. After a dispute that ensued, Hande Ö. wanted to leave the house holding their 4-month-old baby A.Ö. However, Kazım Ö. pulled their son from his mother's arms and threw him onto the glass coffee table in the living room.
After the table broke, Hande Ö. wanted to take her son, who was bleeding and injured on the head, to the hospital, but Kazım Ö. prevented her and seized her phone. After handing the baby to her, Hande Ö. fled the house and sought help from her neighbors. With the help of her neighbors, Hande Ö. retrieved her baby and took him to Keçiören Training and Research Hospital. Baby A.Ö. was discharged after treatment at the hospital. Following Hande Ö.'s complaint, the court issued a 2-month restraining order against Kazım Ö.
"I THOUGHT MY CHILD WAS DYING" Hande Ö. stated that her husband came home drunk at 9:00 PM on the day of the incident, saying, "Things happened within 5 minutes after he arrived. His family was already interfering a lot in my home. I mean, would a mother-in-law lie between her son and daughter-in-law? She was very eager to sleep among us. She always wanted to sleep with us. I was already hosting her family 5 days a week, and I didn't complain. His mother wanted to stay with us every weekend. That day, I told my husband, 'Why does your mother stay with us all the time? I'm going to my mother’s house; I'm already tired.' Then he started to rough me up, saying, 'Where are you going? You can't go, give me my son.' He forcibly took my child from my arms. Then he threatened me. After taking my child in his arms, he asked me, 'Are you going now, are you leaving?' I said, 'Okay Kazım, I'm not going, please give me my child.' He cursed at me heavily. After insulting me, he walked towards the glass table. To punish and scare me, he threw my child onto the glass table. I ran to my child, screaming, and took him out from that glass table. He was covered in blood, and there was redness all the way to his eye. I thought he was dying; I picked him up, but even at that moment, he didn't want to give me my child," she said.
"I WANT A DIVORCE" After the incident, Hande Ö. said she wanted to take her baby to the hospital, but her husband locked the door. "Then I had to give the baby to my husband and opened the door to go barefoot to my neighbor. Then I took my son and went to the hospital, but my husband didn't come with me. Then his mother and my sister-in-law came and destroyed the evidence in the house. They took the metal part of the glass table out of the house. Right now, a 2-month restraining order has been issued, but I want a divorce. I am afraid he will harm me and my child. He has no interest in the child. It has been 15 days since that incident, and he hasn't asked about my child at all. He didn't care, and no one called to ask, 'Is he okay or not?' He didn't ask himself, nor did he follow up. Before I got married, I was a private armed security officer. I quit because my husband didn't want me to work. I want to return to my profession. I want to stand on my own feet and take care of my child," she expressed.
"MY STATEMENT WAS NOT RECORDED AS I SAID" Hande Ö. also claimed that her statement given at the police station was altered, saying, "When I took the statement papers in my hand, I realized that my statement was not recorded as I said. My husband's two uncles worked at that police station. It was written as if nothing had happened. I said he deliberately dropped it, but they told me, 'It is prepared according to the prosecutor's office,' and they wrote 'They fell together.' I was already in shock from the incident; it had only been 2 hours when I signed it," she said.
