CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, following the summit yesterday with the President of the Union of Turkish Municipalities and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, a surprising decision for a primary election was announced. Yavaş informed CHP Chairman Özgür Özel that he would not participate in the primary election during the tripartite summit.
THE DAY HE DECLARED "I'M NOT HERE," POLL RESULTS CAME IN
While the repercussions of this development, which hit the political agenda like a bomb, continue, BETİMAR Research shared the results of a striking survey with the public. In the survey, participants were asked, "If Mansur Yavaş leaves CHP and becomes a presidential candidate for a new formation, would you support him?"
46% SUPPORT
According to the results of the survey; 46.5% responded "Yes, I support" while 53.5% said "No, I do not support," opposing Yavaş's departure from CHP.
DISTRIBUTION OF SUPPORT AMONG PARTIES
If Yavaş were to be a candidate for a new formation, 72.7% of Victory Party members and 72.4% of Good Party members responded that they would support him, while this figure was 52.3% for CHP. In the AK Party, the proportion of those who stated they would support Yavaş was 37.8%, while 47.3% of MHP members responded "I support."
WHAT HAPPENED?
CHP leader Özgür Özel met last night with Istanbul and Ankara metropolitan mayors, Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş, whose names have been mentioned among CHP's presidential candidates. CHP, which called for early elections, had decided to determine its presidential candidate through the votes of its members. While İmamoğlu supported this decision, Yavaş stated that it was too early for this step.
