The statement of Hüseyin Sönmez, who was arrested on the charge of tying the hands of siblings Umutcan and Melisa Şimşek with plastic handcuffs and cutting their throats, has been obtained. Sönmez stated that he came to Sivas to collect a debt he had previously given to Uğur Şimşek from his wife, Ayşegül Şimşek. Regarding the cuts on his hands and the blood traces belonging to him, he said, "I would bite off my own nail."

On the night of May 6 in Sivas, 22-year-old Umutcan and 16-year-old Melisa Şimşek were found dead in their home in Kılavuz Mahallesi, bound with plastic handcuffs by their mother Ayşegül Şimşek, who had returned home from the village, and their throats had been cut.

THE SUSPECT WHO ENTERED THE HOUSE IN A CAMOUFLAGED MANNER WAS CAPTURED IN ANKARA

After the police teams conducted research and camera examinations, it was determined that the suspect was Hüseyin Sönmez, who lived in Ankara. He entered the house in a camouflaged manner, stayed in the building for 5 hours, and was detained in Ankara upon his return, brought to Sivas for questioning. Hüseyin Sönmez denied the murder allegations against him. He was arrested after being referred to judicial authorities.

Hüseyin Sönmez's statement given at the prosecutor's office has emerged. It was determined that Sönmez claimed he came to collect money from Ayşegül Şimşek, the children's mother, for his wife Uğur Şimşek, who had been missing for 5 years, two days before the incident, but returned to Ankara without killing anyone.

"I HAD A DEBT OF 500 THOUSAND TL"

In his statement to the prosecutor's office, Sönmez stated that he was engaged in e-commerce through social media sites and that he knew Umutcan and his mother Ayşegül Şimşek from a television program they participated in 5 years ago. Denying the murder charges against him, Sönmez used the following statements: "I do not know Melisa Şimşek. I worked with Uğur Şimşek before. He defrauded me 5 years ago. Then he disappeared without a trace. I live in Sincan, Ankara. I have lived in Ankara for many years. I took a bus from Alanya on Sunday evening or Monday evening. I came to Sivas. I had been in Sivas since Monday or Tuesday. I stayed one night at the bus station. I also stayed one night on the streets and in parks. I had a debt of 500 thousand TL from Uğur Şimşek in 2020.

"AYŞEGÜL ŞİMŞEK CONTACTED ME"

About 3 months ago, Ayşegül Şimşek contacted me via Telegram. I sold the phone I was using at that time. I reset and sold the phone. The messages on Telegram were temporary. They were deleted after one day, so I do not have the messages. I do not think Ayşegül Şimşek has the messages either. She might, but I have no information on that. Because the messages were deleted.

"SHE TOLD ME SHE WOULD GIVE ME MONEY"

Sönmez continued his statement as follows: "Ayşegül Şimşek told me in May that she would give me money. She said, 'Give up your complaint about Uğur Şimşek.' I came to get this. I started to get excited that my money would come in May. I came to Sivas on Monday or Tuesday, stayed one day at the bus station, and wandered around Sivas for 2 days, without staying at any hotel. I went to Alanya and Sivas three times in 8 days. I stayed in Sivas for the last 3-4 days. The reason I stayed in Sivas was that I ran out of money in Alanya. My family sent me 2 thousand TL. I came to Sivas from Alanya with 1600 TL. I managed with the remaining 400 TL for 3 days. I never went to the İdil Apartment in Kılavuz Mahallesi. I never went to the Tekke Cemetery. I returned to Ankara on Tuesday night. I definitely did not enter the apartment where they lived. I did not kill Umutcan and Melisa Şimşek, and I do not know their house. I have never seen Melisa, I do not know her. I saw Umutcan when he appeared on television. I have anxiety disorder and severe personality disorders. I do not accept the charges against me."

"I USE A MASK FOR STRESS"

Sönmez stated that during the 3 days he stayed in Sivas, he did not communicate with Ayşegül Şimşek because he did not have a phone, and he said that he had previously given her an account and IBAN number. When asked why he came to the city despite giving the IBAN number and why his masked images were detected, Sönmez said, "I was under stress for 8 days. I came to Sivas because of that stress. I wore a mask in Sivas. I take psychiatric medication. When I am under stress, I use it to regulate my breathing and to sit and rest."

HE HITCHHIKED TO ANKARA

Sönmez, who said he hitchhiked from Sivas to Ankara, stated, "I hitchhiked to Ankara, I had no money in my pocket. I also went to the bus station. There were no buses entering the bus station because there were no ticketed passengers on the buses at that time. I got into a car whose license plate I do not remember towards the exit of Sivas," he said. When it was stated in the statement taken from Ayşegül Şimşek that she did not communicate with him, he responded, "Ayşegül Şimşek is lying. She said she would pay the money via Telegram."

"I DID NOT CUT MY HAND IN SIVAS"

In response to a question about the cut on Sönmez's hand, he said, "I did not cut my hand in Sivas, I am sure of that. I was going towards Yozgat. A car had dropped me off. When I stopped to rest on the side, when I put my hand on the ground, a piece of glass cut my hand. Even if the place where my hand was cut is outside of Sivas, there may be blood droplets in Sivas. I can tear my nail off with my mouth.
