Despite the legal obligation, unregistered daily and hourly rental apartments reaching 150,000 threaten the privacy of private life, along with tax losses and security vulnerabilities, as well as emerging hidden-camera cases.
Despite inspections and the permit requirement, daily and hourly residential rentals carried out informally are causing major public concern due to tax losses, unfair competition, security vulnerabilities, and hidden-camera scandals in apartments.
It was stated that, despite the permit requirement across Turkey, there are approximately 150,000 unregistered daily rental homes on the market. According to a report in Türkiye Gazetesi, it has been observed that people seeking to evade administrative inspections have moved their rental listings and communication processes to social media platforms and messaging groups. It was noted that hourly rental apartment prices in the market start at 700 lira, while daily rental fees reach up to 4,000 lira.
EVEN COMPLEX RESIDENTS ARE BEING THREATENED
Unsupervised rentals carried out without any identity checks lead to serious security vulnerabilities, especially in multi-unit and crowded residential complexes. Among the claims is that some complex residents who complained to the authorities about this situation, which disturbs the peace of building and complex residents, were threatened by the people making the rentals.

Hidden camera cases, which have frequently come to the agenda recently in short-term rental homes, have raised threats to privacy to the highest level. Authorities and industry representatives emphasize that inspections will be increased, stating that unregistered activities cause large amounts of tax loss to the state, create unfair competition for businesses operating with legal permits, and most importantly, directly risk the life and property safety of building residents.
