The meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which directly concerns nearly 7 million employees and indirectly affects the entire society regarding the new minimum wage that will be valid in 2025, hosted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, concluded today at 16:00.

SECOND MEETING ON DECEMBER 16

After no wage was determined in the first meeting, attention turned to the second meeting. It has been learned that the second meeting will also be held on December 16 at 14:00. If no clarity is reached in this meeting, it is expected that the minimum wage will be clarified in the next meeting.

DATE OF THE SECOND MEETING ANNOUNCED

After the meeting, Ramazan Ağar, Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Confederation of Trade Unions (Türk-İş), answered questions from the press and stated that no wage was determined in the first meeting. Ağar said: "Details regarding the issue are not yet clear. The wage to be determined in the upcoming meetings will depend on the agreement between the worker and the employer. We hope that a figure will be determined by mutual decision. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission used to meet 4 times a year, but this year it seems that it will meet 3 times. The wages of our people who contribute to our country's economy need to be increased. Our people can no longer afford to pay rent. Most likely, the figure will emerge in the third meeting."

CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE IS 17,002 LIRA

The current minimum wage is set at a gross of 20,002 lira and 50 kuruş, and a net of 17,002 lira and 12 kuruş for a worker. The total cost of the minimum wage to the employer is calculated as 23,502 lira and 94 kuruş. Of this amount, 20,002 lira and 50 kuruş is the gross minimum wage, 3,100 lira and 39 kuruş is the social security premium, and 400 lira and 5 kuruş is distributed as the employer's unemployment insurance fund.

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission makes decisions by a majority vote, and in the case of a tie, the side where the commission chairman is located is considered to have the majority. The commission will meet a total of four times on the dates determined in December to set the new minimum wage.
