The Ergenekon Frame-up began in 2007 with the discovery of grenades in a shanty house in Ümraniye, Istanbul. The first hearing was held on October 20, 2008, in the courtroom at Silivri Prison, where around 400 defendants were accused of being members of Ergenekon.
588 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED
During the Ergenekon frame-up process, over 100,000 phones were monitored, 60,000 phones were tapped, surveillance was conducted on 3,000 individuals, 1,360 people gave statements, and 588 people were arrested. There were 44 secret witnesses in the case. A total of 19 indictments were prepared, exceeding 17,000 pages.
Some defendants passed away without seeing their acquittal. Kuddusi Okkır died from cancer he contracted in Silivri Prison. İlhan Selçuk, Kemal Yavuz, Muzaffer Tekin, Arif Doğan, Uçkun Geray, Erhan Göksel, Sami Hoştan, Mehmet Koral, Ünal İnanç, Salih Kurter, Hüseyin Görüm, Emcet Olcaytu, Engin Aydın, Murat Özkan, and Fatih Derdiyok lost their lives during the trial process.
