On September 8, in the Malkara district of Tekirdağ, the first hearing of the case of baby Sıla (2), who was sexually abused and beaten after being left with a neighbor by her mother, and who died a month later in the hospital, was held today at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court. During the approximately 6-hour hearing, mother Bakiye Yeniçeri (29), the children involved in the crime K.A. (13) and G.K. (14) participated via SEGBİS, while Bakiye Yeniçeri's religiously married husband Sanlı Ö. (57) and neighbor Kani A. (32) were present in the courtroom. It was observed that the defendants deviated from their previous statements and changed their defenses during the hearing. DECISION MADE TO CONTINUE THE DETENTION OF THE DEFENDANTSThe court panel decided to continue the detention of mother Bakiye Yeniçeri, her religiously married husband Sanlı Ö., and the children involved in the crime K.A. and G.K., while releasing neighbor Kani K., who is the father of one of the children, under judicial control. The panel postponed the hearing to February 5, 2025. "FATHER SAID 'I PRESENTED TO THE COURT WHAT I SAW ON MY SON'S PHONE'"Since the trial of adults and children involved in the crime would be held together, the hearing was conducted in closed session as per Article 185 of the Criminal Procedure Code. After the hearing, Sıla baby's family lawyer Ahmet Berksoy made the following statements: As a result of the events that occurred in the Sıla baby case, unfortunately, Sıla baby lost her life. Today, the hearing date was set within the framework of the investigation initiated by the Malkara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and we attended the hearing. We are meticulously carrying out the legal process to ensure that the children involved in the crime and the other defendants receive the heaviest penalties. During the hearing, we observed that the mother deviated from her initial statements and changed her previous statements regarding the bloodstain on the child's diaper. She claimed that there was no blood trace on the child's diaper but stated that bite marks had increased due to the actions of the neighbor's children. The children who testified via SEGBİS denied the accusations in a manner different from their initial statements. However, forensic medical reports indicate that DNA traces were found in the child's anal area. This situation leaves no room for debate in the case. I had the opportunity to speak with one of the defendants, Kani K., during the break. He stated, 'If my son has committed a crime, he should be punished. I presented to the court a situation I saw on his phone,' providing evidence." FROM THE INDICTMENTIn the prepared indictment, it is requested that mother Bakiye Yeniçeri be sentenced to a total of 67 years, neighbor Kani K. to 28 years and 6 months, and her boyfriend Sanlı Ö. to 1 year and 6 months in prison for "failure to report a crime." For the children involved in the crime, 66 years of imprisonment is sought for G.K. and 48 years for K.A.
