Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices, produced locally, have been placed at 4 locations with high citizen density in Mersin. The devices, manufactured in collaboration with ASELSAN, will provide the opportunity for initial intervention with voice commands in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

Domestically produced Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) devices, placed at 4 points with high citizen density in Mersin, will be used for first intervention in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

RAPID INTERVENTION POSSIBLE UNTIL MEDICAL TEAMS ARRIVE

Produced by Turkish engineers with domestic resources through the collaboration of the Ministry of Health and ASELSAN, AED devices allow citizens to intervene quickly during the critical period until emergency response teams arrive in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.

The device can provide guidance through voice commands to restore the patient's heart rhythm. Thus, individuals without first aid training can also use this device.

PLACED AT 4 POINTS

In Mersin, the AED device, placed at 4 points with high human density by the Provincial Health Directorate, will play an effective role in first intervention for individuals who become ill.

Provincial Health Director Mustafa Ekici told AA correspondent that the AED devices have been placed at Ulu Cami Square in Akdeniz district, Kuvay-ı Milliye Street in Toroslar district, Özgecan Aslan Peace Square in Yenişehir district, and the intersection of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Boulevard and Limon Street in Mezitli district.

"EVEN CHILDREN CAN EASILY USE THIS DEVICE"

Ekici, stating that cardiac deaths (sudden cessation of the heart) constitute 60% of deaths worldwide, said, "50% of cardiac deaths are what we call 'shockable rhythm' deaths. When shocked within the first 5 minutes, their survival rate is 50%. Four of the AED devices produced by ASELSAN have been allocated to our province. These devices will not be sufficient with just four. They will become widespread in our province."

Ekici noted that the device can give voice commands and stated the following: "Any citizen, even children, can easily use this device. It is a very important and serious device for people to live healthier, survive, increase survival after the first intervention, and then be discharged with recovery. When you call 112 and declare that the patient's heart has stopped, our colleagues in the call center will describe the device's location on the phone and explain how to use it."
