Faik Dal, who was rescued at the last moment from the collapsed building in Konya, said, "I was sitting with my girlfriend. The doorman came and said the columns are cracking, get out of the building immediately. They had already said three days ago that the building could collapse. There were creaking sounds coming from the building, and suddenly it collapsed."
Residents of the three-story building that collapsed in Konya recounted the moments they narrowly escaped disaster. Muhammet Veli Kahya, who managed to get his wife and child out of the building at the last moment, said that the building collapsed just as he turned back to rescue his neighbors.
"I WAS TRAPPED BETWEEN THE COLUMNS"
Kahya, who said he rushed over when he heard that they were evacuating the building, stated, "When I arrived, my family was still around the building. We immediately got them away. There were sounds coming from the building. Before me, my friend Muhammet went upstairs to get his father. As I was going up, they were talking on the balcony. I couldn't say anything because I don't speak Arabic. I just said come. I noticed the key was missing. Suddenly, as I was going outside, the building collapsed. At that moment, I was trapped between the columns. Later, the police came and got me out. However, my friends were left inside," he said.
THEY SAID 'THE BUILDING COULD COLLAPSE' 3 DAYS AGO
Faik Dal, who lives in the building, explained that they were warned by the caretaker, saying, "I was sitting with my girlfriend. The caretaker came and said the columns are cracking, get out of the building immediately. They had already said three days ago that the building could collapse. We went outside and waited for about 45 minutes. Then we heard cracking sounds from the building, and suddenly it collapsed," he said.
