The dismissed Metropolitan Mayor of Mardin, Ahmet Türk, stirred up the political arena with his post about Amedspor, saying "A team from Kurdistan has made it to the Super League." In response to the Grand Unity Party Chairman Mustafa Destici's words, "What Kurdistan? This is the Republic of Turkey. If you don't like it, you can leave," Ahmet Türk replied, "I don't take Mustafa Destici seriously. He is not someone worth responding to."

Ahmet Türk, who was elected as the Metropolitan Mayor of Mardin in the March 31, 2024 local elections but later dismissed, stated in his social media post, “I am very happy, a team from Kurdistan has been promoted to the Super League, I wish them success.” Türk’s post quickly became a topic of discussion in the political arena.

DESTECI HARSHLY REACTED

Mustafa Destici, the Chairman of the Great Unity Party, a partner in the People's Alliance, also harshly criticized Ahmet Türk's post. In a statement on his social media account, Destici said, “What Kurdistan, man! This is the Republic of Turkey. If you don't like it, pack up and leave.”

AHMET TÜRK'S RESPONSE

Speaking to İlke TV regarding Destici's remarks, Ahmet Türk said, “I don't take Mustafa Destici seriously. He is not someone worth responding to.”

Ahmet Türk also used the following expressions in his statement:

“Here there are Assyrians, Armenians, Arabs, many peoples. They are all Kurdistani peoples. Amedspor is a Turkish team, but ultimately there is a Kurdistani spirit. People showed this through songs, Kurdish expressions, and Kurdish addresses. This is the reflection of a people's language and culture onto sports.”

OKTAY SARAL ALSO REACTED

Presidential Chief Advisor Oktay Saral also made a statement regarding Ahmet Türk's words.

In his post, Saral said, “There is no state called 'Kurdistan' in these lands, and there never will be... When you speak, you must know your limits, your place, and your boundaries!”
