The payment schedule for the holiday bonus that millions of retirees have been waiting for was expected to be finalized this week. However, following the political discussions that began in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), the negotiations were suspended until March 25. As a result, the discussion regarding the regulation of the retirement bonus has also been postponed.

Millions of retirees across Turkey were wondering how much bonus they would receive during the Ramadan and Eid al-Adha holidays in 2025. In discussions regarding the bonuses, which were paid as 3,000 lira in 2024, it was decided that the bonuses would be paid as 4,000 lira for each holiday this year.

However, for this increase to become official, it needed to be approved by the Parliamentary Planning and Budget Commission, then submitted to the President, and published in the Official Gazette. While the process continued in its own flow, it was overshadowed by political debates. Following the operation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, tensions arose in the Parliament, where yesterday, AK Party and MHP deputies did not participate in the roll call during the General Assembly. As a sufficient arithmetic majority could not be achieved, the discussions were suspended. The next session date of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for all law discussions, including the regulation regarding retirement bonuses, was determined to be on March 25, Tuesday, at 15:00.

COST OF BONUSES TO THE BUDGET CALCULATED

For approximately 16 million retirees, the holiday bonus, which was last raised to 3,000 lira on March 2, 2024, will be paid as 4,000 TL during Ramadan and Eid al-Adha with the enactment of the law proposal. The cost of increasing the holiday bonuses from 3,000 lira to 4,000 lira was calculated to be 28.4 billion lira for the 2025 budget.

AN INCREASE IN WIDOW AND ORPHAN PENSIONS AS WELL

Widows and orphans also receive holiday bonuses. However, the amounts are calculated based on entitlement ratios. Those with 75% entitlement will receive a total of 6,000 TL (3,000 lira each), those with 50% entitlement will receive a total of 4,000 TL (2,000 lira each), and those with 25% entitlement will receive a total of 2,000 TL (1,000 lira each).

PAY ATTENTION TO THE FEBRUARY DETAILS FOR THE BONUS!

Those who submit their retirement application by the end of February will be able to benefit from the Ramadan holiday bonus, even if they have not yet received their pension. Those who apply for retirement by the end of May will only benefit from the Eid al-Adha holiday bonus. Although there is no specific date set for retirement bonuses, they are generally deposited into accounts before both holidays. This year, Ramadan falls between March 30, Sunday, and April 1, Tuesday.
