The downpour that has been affecting Istanbul since yesterday caused flooding in Şile. While the water level on some streets in the district rose up to the height of vehicles, the gardens of some houses were also flooded. The flooded area was captured from the air. The Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) warned that the rainfall would continue to affect the Anatolian Side.
After heavy rainfall in Şile, many streets were flooded. In some spots, water rising up to the height of vehicles caused difficult moments for drivers and pedestrians.
STREETS TURNED INTO A LAKE
The downpour, which has continued intermittently in Istanbul since yesterday, also made its effect felt in Şile. While some streets in the district quickly turned into lakes, the water level rose up to the height of vehicles in many places. Moving with vehicles on the flooded streets became difficult, and pedestrians also struggled to walk.
FLOODWATER INUNDATED THE GARDENS OF HOUSES
Along with the rainfall, water also flooded the gardens of some houses in the region. Striking scenes occurred in the streets where flooding was experienced. The flooded area was filmed from the air. In the aerial footage, it was seen that the water spread over a wide area. After the waters recede, the damage in the region is expected to be assessed.
AKOM: RAINS WILL CONTINUE ON THE ANATOLIAN SIDE
AKOM reported that the rains will continue to affect the Anatolian Side and around the Bosphorus. According to AKOM's statement, in some areas until 10:00 today, an additional 50-75 kilograms of precipitation per square meter and winds blowing at 50-80 kilometers per hour are expected.
According to information shared by the Istanbul Governor's Office based on data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the highest rainfall was measured in the Ömerli area of Beykoz, neighboring Şile, at 193.84 kilograms per square meter. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) announced that 242 kilograms of rain per square meter fell in Beykoz and that this amount is among the highest values seen in the city since 1985.
IN ŞİLE, A CREEK ALSO OVERFLOWED IN 2023
Şile had previously been the scene of similar images due to downpours. In the rains that were effective in October 2023, Koca Dere in the Ağva region overflowed, and bungalows and some houses around the creek were flooded. Şile Municipality teams at that time carried out work to widen the mouth of the creek with construction machinery, and also cleaned the sewer grates in the district center.
