A person working at the Ministry of Finance in Japan lost something they should not have lost when they went out for drinks with colleagues one evening. A bag containing documents with the personal data of 187 individuals suspected of drug trafficking went missing.
A person working at the Ministry of Finance in Japan went to an entertainment venue with colleagues in Yokohama on February 6. The employee, whose name has not been disclosed, consumed 9 glasses of alcohol during the 5 hours spent at the venue.
LOST HIS BAG CONTAINING SENSITIVE INFORMATION
Eventually, the intoxicated employee lost his bag, which contained documents with personal data of 187 individuals suspected of drug trafficking. The ministry employee did not realize he had lost his bag until he got off the train he took to return home from Yokohama to the city of Sumida. The bag also contained the employee's personal information and work computer.
MINISTRY CONFIRMED
In a statement released by the Ministry of Finance regarding the incident, it was noted that they are "deeply sorry for this incident, which has significantly undermined public trust." It was stated that the employee was assigned to the ministry's customs and tariff unit.
