Starting from February, a new regulation will be implemented regarding electricity bills. According to a statement made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, citizens with a monthly electricity consumption of 417 kilowatt-hours (1,050 TL) will start paying the actual costs instead of subsidized prices if their consumption exceeds this limit. The new regulation particularly concerns subscribers with high consumption.
1.2 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS' BILL AMOUNTS WILL CHANGE
Stating that there are approximately 40 million residential subscribers in Turkey, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that the regulation will affect about 3% of this group, which is 1.2 million subscribers. Minister Bayraktar expressed that this group generally consists of those living in large houses, using electric vehicles, or having high electricity consumption.
SUPPORT FOR ELECTRICITY WILL BE REMOVED, REAL CONSUMPTION COSTS WILL BE PAID
Minister Bayraktar said, "Subscribers exceeding 417 kilowatt-hours of consumption per month will pay for electricity at its actual cost starting from February. This regulation is an application aimed at high consumption groups. While the average household electricity bill is around 414 TL, the monthly bill for high consumption subscribers exceeds 1,050 TL. From this point on, the subsidized price application will end," he said.
417 KILOWATT-HOUR LIMIT WILL BE ACCEPTED
According to sector sources, subscribers exceeding the monthly limit of 417 kilowatt-hours may experience an increase of 96-97% in their bills. In this case, an electricity bill of 1,000 TL could rise to as much as 2,000 TL. However, this increase will only apply to consumers who exceed the specified limit.
