Glens of Antrim Potatoes Ltd, a 54-year-old food producer supplying products to the UK's leading supermarket chains, filed for bankruptcy due to rising costs and the financial crisis it experienced. About 100 people were left unemployed after the company, which produces potatoes and chips, ceased operations. Restructuring and investor search efforts carried out to save the company proved unsuccessful.

Northern Ireland-based Glens of Antrim Potatoes Ltd, which supplies products to retailers such as the UK's leading supermarket chains Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury's, filed for bankruptcy after being unable to overcome its financial difficulties. With the company immediately ceasing operations, approximately 100 employees lost their jobs.

54-YEAR-OLD COMPANY CEASED OPERATIONS

Founded in 1972, Glens of Antrim Potatoes Ltd was known not only as a potato supplier but also for the crisps it produced under its own brand. The company, which reached a wide sales network across the UK and Ireland, ended its operations after financial problems caused by rising costs.

With the closure of the company, approximately 100 people were made redundant.

RISING COSTS BROUGHT BANKRUPTCY

It was stated that behind Glens of Antrim's financial difficulties were increases in agricultural, labor, fuel and energy expenses.

Struggling with serious cash flow problems as production and operating costs increased, the company had difficulty meeting its financial obligations.

INVESTOR SEARCHES REMAINED FRUITLESS

Interpath representatives appointed as administrators to the company announced that before the insolvency process, various options were evaluated in order to keep the business afloat.

It was stated that within this scope restructuring efforts were carried out and new investors were sought, but the attempts yielded no results. As the financial problems could not be resolved, it was decided to halt the company's operations.

BANKRUPTCIES CONTINUE IN THE FOOD SECTOR

The closure of Glens of Antrim was one of the latest examples of financial difficulties experienced in the food sector throughout 2026 in the United Kingdom. The 54-year-old potato and crisp producer joined the companies struggling to continue operations due to the impact of rising production, energy and labor costs.
