It has been learned that some scenes of the new film 'The Odyssey' by the famous director Christopher Nolan, known for films like Oppenheimer, Tenet, Dunkirk, Interstellar, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, The Prestige, and Memento, will be shot in Turkey.
PREFERRED YASON BURNU
A post shared on the 'Christopher Nolan Art & Updates' social media account included a photo of Yason Burnu Peninsula and the famous director, stating, "Some scenes for Christopher Nolan's next film 'The Odyssey' will be shot at Yason Burnu in the Perşembe district of Ordu, Turkey."
"WE WILL PROVIDE INFRASTRUCTURE"
Perşembe Mayor Cihat Albayrak indicated that they are closely following the matter, saying, "Due to the film The Odyssey, which has been on the agenda for a few days because of the mythological 'Golden Fleece Legend' taking place at Yason Burnu, we are in the spotlight. The fact that a part of the new film to be shot by the world-renowned director Christopher Nolan will take place at Yason Burnu Peninsula has seriously found its place on social media. Therefore, this development excites not only our Perşembe district but also our province and our country.
Today we spoke with the ministry, and the ministry officials are also closely following the situation, but there has been no official statement from the other side. Of course, the encouraging aspect for us is that we will introduce our beautiful district, our tranquil city, not only within our country but to the world. It is a great opportunity for us. When we provide the necessary infrastructure for Christopher Nolan regarding this film, our tranquil city of Perşembe will stand out even more," he said.
TOLD THE MYTHOLOGICAL GOLDEN FLEECE STORY
Researcher-Writer and Historian Naim Güney (68) stated that this region is the most suitable place for the film from a historical perspective, saying, "I was very happy to hear that Christopher Nolan will shoot his new film here. It is truly the right choice. Because among the known mythological stories, one of the oldest epics is the Golden Fleece Legend. Yason Burnu, located in the Perşembe district of Ordu, is an ancient region mentioned in this legend. The mythological story of the Golden Fleece was written by Apollonius of Rhodes in the 3rd century BC," he explained the story of the region as follows:
"In the work titled Argonautica, the challenging journey of Jason and the Argonauts to seize the golden fleece is narrated. The golden fleece symbolizes wealth and power. The king of Thessaly had a son named Phriksos and a daughter named Helle. The king later remarried, and the stepmother mistreated these children.
Eventually, she tried to kill the children. However, the children managed to escape with a flying ram with a golden fleece, a gift from Zeus. Phriksos sacrificed the 'Golden Fleece Ram' to the god Zeus for saving his life. The king of Colchis hid the remaining golden fleece in a grove guarded by a dragon. Meanwhile, the king of Thessaly died, and his son Aison took over. However, shortly after, Aison's stepbrother Pelias seized the throne.
Aison's son Jason later wanted to reclaim the throne, and Pelias promised that he would hand over the throne if Jason could bring the 'Golden Fleece' from the land of Colchis. Jason accepted this agreement and set out with 50 warriors. He had a ship built named 'Argo,' which means fast. The famous mythological hero Hercules was also on this ship, and the crew was called the Argonauts. During their long and arduous journey, they rested at the place now known as Yason Burnu in the Perşembe district of Ordu.
This cape is still called Yason Burnu today. The Argonauts eventually reached the lands of Colchis. At that time, the king of Colchis was Aietes. Aietes is the son of Helios, the Sun God, in mythology. Jason explains why he has come and asks for the golden fleece. The king imposes very harsh conditions to not give the golden fleece. According to these conditions, Jason must first defeat the fire-breathing bulls, then kill the dragon, and plant the dragon's teeth in the ground, killing the new warriors that spring from the earth one by one. For this reason, this region is the most suitable area for the film."
