Deniz Eroğlu, who was assaulted in front of his children on the Marmaray, recounted the terrifying moments he experienced. The father said, "I was assaulted in front of my children, my nose was broken. I was just trying to protect them." He added, "I am also a healthcare worker, you can see my condition. I have fractures in two places, and surgery may be necessary."
Health worker Deniz Eroğlu, who was traveling with her two children on the Marmaray line in Istanbul, was assaulted following a dispute after warning a passenger who was blocking the door. Eroğlu, who was punched and had her nose broken in front of her children, recounted the terrifying moments she experienced.
Eroğlu, speaking to Ekol TV, described the events with the following words:
"There was a lady at the door. As I was trying to enter with my children, you can imagine there isn't a space for three people. I couldn't get in while carrying my children. I said, 'Why are you standing here? Why are you in front of the door when there is space behind?' She replied, 'Why don't you just pass through, brother?' I got angry and said, 'Why should I pass? There are rules for public transport.'
"HE PUNCHED ME AND RAN AWAY"
Our conversation lasted less than 30 seconds. The train from Bostancı to Küçükyalı takes only 2 minutes. Then a gentleman who saw the lady crying started to argue with me. But we didn't talk to him at all; the argument was with the woman. The man outside was pushing me. He was the one escalating the situation; the other man punched me as the door was closing and ran away. My children were with me at that moment. My nose was broken, and I received stitches. I filed a complaint.
"YOU'RE GETTING BEATEN IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILDREN"
My wife was a teacher; she was waiting there. I handed the children to her. You can imagine, you are getting beaten in front of your children, your nose is broken. I am trying to protect my children. I turned to the man and said, 'You escalated this issue.' He started pushing me. If it weren't for those intervening, the incident would have continued.
"HE CALLED HIS RELATIVES"
He knew I would get off at Süreyya Beach. He also got off there. They called their relatives, and there were 4-5 of them. They tried to talk to me. I am also a healthcare worker; you can see my condition. I have fractures in two places, and surgery may be necessary."
