The Almus Dam Lake in Tokat, which poses a flood risk, reached 100% capacity due to winter and spring rains. The islet that emerged last year due to drought is now underwater again. For the first time since 1993, water release from the spillway is being considered.

The water level in Almus Dam Lake, used for agricultural irrigation and electricity generation in Tokat, has risen to 100 percent due to effective rainfall during the winter and spring months.

DROUGHT TRACES ERASED BY RAINFALL

Last year, due to insufficient rainfall, the water level in Almus Dam Lake dropped significantly, and an islet formed within the lake emerged. This year, however, the effective rainfall, especially during the winter period, raised the water level in the dam again.

The occupancy rate, which was at 38 percent at the beginning of January, reached 100 percent as of today with the effect of spring rains.

A FIRST SINCE 1993 MAY OCCUR

Officials evaluate that water discharge may begin in Almus Dam Lake due to the increase in occupancy rate. It was learned that water was last released from the dam spillway in May 1993.

Farmers in the region state that the increase in the dam's occupancy rate is of great importance for agricultural irrigation.
