AK Party Group Deputy Chair Özlem Zengin met with members of the press at the Anadolu Conversations program of the Turkish Press Federation.

"A ROADMAP WILL BE DETERMINED WITH SOME REGULATIONS THAT SHOULD BE IN THE CRIMINAL CODE"

Zengin, regarding the work of the commission established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) within the scope of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' goal, stated, "From the very first day of our discussions, there were no conditional meetings. I have been working with the DEM group for many years. They are also aware of the sensitivity of the process. Later, MIT President Ibrahim Bey made a presentation to all groups in a closed session. As a result of these developments, the PKK responded to this call, and the weapons were laid down in a ceremony. The delegations will continue to work until the end of this year and will make a recommendation to the TBMM. A roadmap will be determined with some regulations that are likely to be necessary in the criminal code, separately foreseen for those who have touched weapons and those who have not, for those who commit crimes and those who do not. We do not yet know what the commission will tell us. I think the opinion of the commission is very important. Last week, slogans that disturbed the entire country were chanted at the DEM group meeting. Everyone, especially the DEM Party, needs to take into account the sensitivities in the public opinion," she said.

"GENERAL AMNESTY" DISCUSSIONS: IT WILL BE CONDITIONAL

In response to a question about the general amnesty discussions, Özlem Zengin said, "My personal opinion is that I do not think there will be a general amnesty regulation. We will sit down and discuss the issue with both parliamentarians and criminal law experts. It will be conditional; like not committing again. I do not expect it to be in the form of a total amnesty," she said.

"WE ARE DOING THIS FOR THE FUTURE OF TURKEY"

Özlem Zengin, regarding the new constitution studies, stated, "Before the end of the last legislative year, a delegation was formed in our party. We believe that the country needs a civil constitution. We all took certain sections on what should be in the constitution. We reviewed all previous constitutions. We want to create a framework and establish it with the participation of all political parties in the TBMM. We are doing this work not for the re-candidacy of our President, but for the future of Turkey," she said.

"A LAWSUIT HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST 1 PERSON"

Özlem Zengin reminded that there are explicit provisions regarding the removal of citizenship in the population law of the Republic of Turkey, stating, "Voluntarily serving in another country’s military without permission from the Republic of Turkey is a reason for removal of citizenship. There are 29,178 Jewish citizens in Turkey, and 1,568 people have dual citizenship status. Currently, a lawsuit has been filed against only 1 person who has been identified as voluntarily serving in the Israeli army. There are plans to file lawsuits against 2 other individuals. The removal of citizenship for these individuals is possible under the current legislation, but evidence and identification are required for action to be taken," she stated. Zengin also emphasized that creating a language of hostility towards all Jews with dual citizenship would be dangerous.
