Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek stated that they will permanently station tax officers at the entrances and exits of all Organized Industrial Zones (OSBs) and on all main arteries of metropolitan cities to detect tax evaders. It was reported that the system was put into operation as of January 1, and that actions were taken against those with missing documents. It was also mentioned that 50,000 inspections were conducted in 184 OSBs and 35,000 inspections were carried out during road checks.
The Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet Şimşek, stated during a program he attended a few days ago that everyone who earns but does not pay taxes is on their radar. Şimşek emphasized that with the strengthening of the teams, there will be a constant Ministry of Finance presence at the entrances and exits of all organized industrial zones (OSBs), markets, and cities, saying, "It's not about going at this hour; we will establish a permanent location."
IN EFFECT SINCE JANUARY 1
According to a report by Neşe Karanfil from Hürriyet, this system has been implemented. Accordingly, tax audit teams have made the inspections of OSBs or roads they conducted in previous years a permanent practice starting from January 1, 2025.
OSB AND ROAD INSPECTION FIGURES
It has been recorded that 50,000 inspections have been conducted in 184 OSBs and 30,000 reports have been prepared since January 1, 2025, while 35,000 inspections have been carried out on the roads. It was noted that inspections, which were previously conducted occasionally in OSBs, are now being done almost every day, and it was mentioned that widespread inspections were also conducted recently in an OSB in Istanbul with 18 gates.
TRUCKS ARE BEING STOPPED
During inspections conducted in OSBs or on roads, the delivery note and invoice of the stopped trucks are checked. If there is no document, a report is prepared, and an inventory is created.
"WHO ARE YOU BUYING THE GOODS FROM AND WHO ARE YOU TAKING THEM TO?"
Experts explained that when a truck is stopped, they ask who the goods are purchased from and who they are being taken to. "When a truck is stopped and it contains tomatoes, they ask who it was purchased from and who it is being taken to. The firm receiving the goods is also asked what purpose they will use it for. So, it's not just about catching and stopping on the road. The aim is to prevent chain unregistered activities in the field," they stated.
It was noted that during inspections on the roads, invoice and delivery note checks are conducted to prevent unregistered activities. It was also mentioned that a protocol was signed with the General Directorate of Highways about 6 months ago for inspections on the roads, and it was learned that the Ministry of Finance teams conduct tax audits at weighing locations.
