ONE PERSON HAS DIED IN PORTUGAL
In Portugal, where the state of alarm declared by the government on August 3 has been extended until August 17, it was reported that one person participating in the firefighting efforts has died and another has been seriously injured.
Currently, fires are continuing in 50 locations in rural and forested areas in Portugal, with approximately 4,600 people participating in the firefighting efforts, supported by 1,400 vehicles on the ground and 34 helicopters and planes from the air.
Government officials announced that two planes sent from Morocco at the beginning of the week will remain until the weekend to support the firefighting efforts, and that Sweden has also sent two planes.
4 SOLDIERS INJURED IN SPAIN
On the other hand, it has been reported that 4 soldiers participating in the firefighting efforts in the Yeres district of Leon, in northern Spain, have been injured.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated in a post made on the social media platform of the US-based company X that he is "with all his support and solidarity alongside the soldiers injured in the fire and their families, wishing for their swift recovery," and thanked them for their efforts and dedication.
The fires are still ongoing in the northern Galicia region, in Ourense, in the Zamora and Leon cities of the Castile and Leon region, and in the southern Extremadura region.
In these areas, 12 main roads have been closed to traffic, and train services between Madrid and Galicia continue to be suspended. Due to the fires in Spain, 3 people have lost their lives this week.
