After the cancellation of İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu's university diploma by Istanbul University, İmamoğlu's lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan stated that the decision is null and void, saying, "The university's board of directors does not have the authority to revoke a diploma."

The lawyer of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, Mehmet Pehlivan, reacted to the cancellation of İmamoğlu's diploma by stating, "The university administration cannot make such a decision. It is null and void."

Istanbul University announced to the public that it has canceled the diploma of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul.

In the statement made by the university, it was noted that a total of 28 diplomas have been canceled.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM İMAMOĞLU'S LAWYER

While the decision has caused a significant uproar, İmamoğlu's lawyer Mehmet Pehlivan stated in his announcement that the decision is not null and void.

Pehlivan, who said, "The University Board of Directors cannot make such a decision. The announced decision is null and void," added, "It is clearly stated in Article 15 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 that the University Board of Directors is an assisting body to the rector in administrative activities. It does not have the authority to make such a decision regarding diplomas; it is null and void. Therefore, the news of the diploma cancellation is not true."

Pehlivan also wrote, "The authority regarding the diploma is the same as that of the university's cafeteria and the Board of Directors. In other words, it has no authority."
