The social media account of Ekrem İmamoğlu, the Mayor of Istanbul, who is detained in Silivri Prison, has been blocked in Turkey by a court decision. The decision was communicated to the social media platform by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) at midnight, and access restrictions were implemented.
The first strong reaction against the access ban came from Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara. Yavaş announced that he opened his X account named "Mansur Yavaş 2025," which he actively used during the election period, to Ekrem İmamoğlu.
GAVE THE ACCOUNT TO İMAMOĞLU FOR HIS USE
Changing the profile picture of his account to a photo of İmamoğlu, Yavaş stated, "The access ban imposed on Ekrem İmamoğlu's official social media account is a censorship imposed not only on one person but on the voices of millions. We strongly condemn this unlawfulness. However, it should be known that wherever justice is attempted to be silenced, we will speak even louder." he said.
Yavaş indicated that he would continue to be the voice of İmamoğlu until the access ban on the account is lifted.
