Footage recorded in Seattle, USA, garnered significant attention on social media. An unusually looking raccoon, nicknamed “Jimothy” by the public, was seen running in backyards and on balconies. The creature, which left many astonished at first glance, is believed to have a rare condition known as Short Spine Syndrome.

In the viral footage, Jimothy is seen first running rapidly in a garden and then climbing stone stairs. In another video, it effortlessly slips through balcony railings and disappears.

Kiana Hall, 33, who encountered the raccoon, said she was greatly surprised during her night walk. Hall stated she could not initially understand what she was seeing but, from the characteristic patterns on its face, she realized it was a raccoon and thought it might have a genetic disorder. Hall added, “I hope Jimothy continues to live freely and stays healthy.”

After the footage was viewed millions of times on social media, users declared Jimothy Seattle’s new mascot. Many argued that the animal should be protected, with comments on Reddit featuring phrases like “the animal that suits Seattle the most” and “must be protected at all costs.”
