The first images of the Massaco tribe, which lives in the Amazon rainforest and has had no contact with the modern world, were documented by the Brazilian National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai). It was reported that the tribe's population is approaching 300 and that they are completely self-sufficient. The tribe is notable for its long houses, totems made from animal skulls, and the strict measures they take against the outside world.

The first images of the Massaco tribe, one of the last tribes living in the Amazon rainforest of Brazil that has had no contact with the modern world, have emerged. The tribe draws attention with its traps set to keep foreigners away and its mysterious rituals.

Hidden cameras placed by the Brazilian National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) documented the daily life of the tribe. Funai official Altair Algayer stated, "In our recent exploration trips, we saw new huts. We estimate their population is approaching 300."

The tribe, living in a 1 million-acre area in the Rondônia region of western Brazil, hunts with bows longer than 3 meters and is completely self-sufficient. Researchers have yet to figure out how the tribe uses such long bows.

Among the most important features that distinguish Massaco from other Amazon tribes are their long huts, totems made from animal skulls, and the strict measures they take against the outside world. The tribe sets traps made of sharp wooden stakes on the forest floor to keep intruders away from their territories.

Algayer stated, "Documenting the existence of the tribe is very important because only in this way can we protect their living spaces. We have been working in the region since 1992, and we observe that the tribe's population is continuously increasing."

Funai officials continue their research by tracking the seasonal movements of the tribe. It has been determined that Massaco settles in areas after burning grasslands at the beginning of the rainy season when new plants sprout.

As one of the 28 isolated tribes known to exist in Brazil, the protection of Massaco is also of great importance for the future of the Amazon rainforest.
