Ahmet Özer, the CHP mayor of Esenyurt who was arrested on charges of membership in a terrorist organization, sent a message from Silivri Prison. In his message, Özer stated, "I will emerge stronger and continue my services from where I left off."

CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel, following the arrest of Ahmet Özer, had invited all Istanbul residents to Esenyurt Republic Square at 16:00 today through an announcement on his social media account. In his speech today in Esenyurt, Özel read the message sent by Ahmet Özer from Silivri Prison, where he is being held.

Özer used the following expressions in his message:

"Our first word is that my staff and friends should hold on to their jobs with both hands. Citizens should never be victimized! I will come out stronger and continue my services from where I left off."

AHMET ÖZER WAS ARRESTED

Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was taken into custody early yesterday morning as part of an investigation aimed at identifying the members and activities of the PKK/KCK. It was determined that Özer had numerous contacts with members of the terrorist organization PKK over a 10-year period. It was established that he had met with PKK terrorists 694 times and had contacted Kongra-gel co-chair Remzi Kartal 14 times. Following the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was taken into custody and gave a statement at the Public Prosecutor's Office after his procedures at the police station. After the procedures at the Public Prosecutor's Office, he was referred to the magistrate's court with a request for arrest on the grounds of being a member of the illegal armed terrorist organization PKK. Özer was arrested by the magistrate's court on the charge of 'being a member of an armed terrorist organization' and sent to prison.
