Following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as part of a 'corruption' investigation, the Republican People's Party (CHP) began to make consecutive statements. CHP member Ali Mahir Başarır stated, "This nation will not allow you to stop Ekrem İmamoğlu, whom you could not defeat at the ballot box, through a judicial coup. We will be in the squares, in the streets, everywhere."
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested as part of an investigation against the municipality. It was noted that İmamoğlu was arrested in connection with a corruption investigation.
"THIS DECISION IS NULL AND VOID"
Following this bombshell development, statements from the CHP began to come in one after another. The official account of the CHP stated, "We will continue the struggle," while Ali Mahir Başarır said, "Even if you handcuff Ekrem İmamoğlu's hands, you cannot handcuff the heart of the people! This nation will not allow you to stop Ekrem İmamoğlu, whom you could not defeat at the ballot box, with a judicial coup! This seat, taken with legitimate votes, cannot be seized with illegitimate orders! This decision is null and void! We will be in the squares, in the streets, everywhere!"

CHP member Sezgin Tanrıkulu stated, "No matter what we say, it's not enough, we are very angry. This was a political coup and was done with the intention of seizing power. This is not a judicial activity. This is directly an operation to intimidate the opposition and push them out of the game through institutions seized by the government. The ruling party will see what these actions mean at the ballot box," he said.
