The last moments of 2 people who lost their lives by being electrocuted while crossing the road where water accumulated have emerged.
In Konak district of Izmir, Özge Ceren Deniz and İnanç Öktemay lost their lives when they were electrocuted while trying to cross the road during heavy rain. In the security camera footage that emerged about the moment of the incident, it can be seen that Özge Ceren Deniz tripped over the drain while trying to cross the road and İnanç Öktemay got electrocuted while trying to help.
Meanwhile; it was learned that Özge Ceren Deniz was a 5th year medical student at Democracy University Faculty of Medicine and that she did not know İnanç Öktemay, who lost his life in the same incident.
"I WRAPPED THE GARDEN HOSE AROUND HER LEG, PULLED HER OUT OF THE WATER" Nurullah Özel (30), one of the residents who provided first aid to the two people who were electrocuted, said, "I was sitting in the parking lot. I heard voices from the road. I went towards the voices. I was wearing slippers. Someone said there was an electric current in the water. I went home and put on my boots, took a stick in my hand and intervened. My intention was to extend the stick and pull them out of the water if they were electrocuted. But when I went there, both of them were unconscious. I ran back home. I took the pliers and the garden hose. First, I lifted the girl's leg, wrapped the garden hose around her leg and pulled her out of the water. We did the same intervention for the man. But when we pulled them out, when we checked their pulse, the girl's body was cold. She had probably already passed away. The man's body was still warm. We performed CPR and artificial respiration. The man's heart was beating, then they were taken to the hospital by ambulance," he said.
"SMOKE HAD COME OUT OF THE DRAIN BEFORE" Özel said, "We didn't want such an incident to happen. There had been an electrical leakage or something like that here before. I don't know why it happened, but smoke had come out of the drain before. At that time, officials from the electricity company came and checked. They said there was no problem and they did the maintenance. The same incident happened again now and it cost the lives of two people. May God have mercy on them. We wish patience to the families," he said.
"THERE HAS BEEN NO COMPLAINT RECORD IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS" In the statement made by Gdz Elektrik regarding the incident, it was stated, "We continue to provide all kinds of support to help the relevant authorities to quickly clarify the incident. In the initial investigations, it is important to note that there is no overhead investment belonging to our company in the region and that the responsibility for the drains reflected in the news does not belong to our company. On the other hand, there has been no complaint record regarding our investments in the region in the last 6 months. We express our belief that the incident will be clarified after the expert report following the investigations and emphasize that we are by the side of the relevant authorities with all our support and in the most transparent way. We express our deep sorrow for the loss of İnanç Öktemay and Özge Ceren Deniz and extend our condolences and sympathy to their grieving families, relatives, and loved ones," the statement said.
