Footage has emerged of David Coote, one of the well-known referees of the English Premier League, allegedly using drugs in a hotel room during Euro 2024. In an 8-second video published by The Sun, the 42-year-old referee appears to be using a suspicious substance. It has been learned that the footage was recorded on July 6, the day after the Portugal-France quarter-final match. Coote was serving as the VAR assistant in that match. In a statement from the PGMOL, the refereeing body of the English Football Association, it was said, "We take the allegations seriously. David Coote will be suspended during the investigation process." This scandal comes after videos surfaced of Coote previously insulting Jurgen Klopp. UEFA had also suspended the referee from officiating in European matches. A source speaking to The Sun claimed that Coote had also used inappropriate language about some clubs and players. It is reported that the referee's career is in jeopardy following the scandal.
