CHP Istanbul MP Zeynel Emre announced that they will start collecting signatures from delegates starting tomorrow for an extraordinary congress following the MYK meeting chaired by Özgür Özel. Emre also stated that if the congress is not held, the party's right to participate in elections could be jeopardized, saying, "If this period exceeds 6 years, that political party cannot enter the elections, this is very clear."
As political tensions continue in the CHP following the "absolute nullity" decision, Zeynel Emre, a figure close to Özgür Özel, made a striking statement. Emre announced that they would start collecting signatures from delegates starting tomorrow to convene an extraordinary congress.
PROCESS FOR EXTRAORDINARY CONGRESS BEGINS
CHP Istanbul Deputy Zeynel Emre, who answered questions from the press after the MYK meeting held at the Turkish Grand National Assembly under the chairmanship of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, made statements regarding the extraordinary congress process.
Emre reminded that it had been previously announced that the signature process would be initiated if no statement regarding the congress date came from the Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu camp during the holiday break, and stated that the process would begin tomorrow.
"WE ARE STARTING TO COLLECT SIGNATURES TOMORROW"
Responding to a question about whether signatures would be collected for the extraordinary congress, Emre said, "We are starting, friends. On Monday, that is tomorrow, we are collecting signatures. You will see that we collect them within a very short time."
Arguing that they would receive the necessary support for the congress, Emre stated, "We will collect the signatures of all delegates authorized in line with the court's decision."
"VALID CONGRESS IS JULY 2020"
Zeynel Emre also noted that the congress held on November 4-5, 2023, and subsequent congresses were annulled by the court, and stated that in this case, the last valid congress of the CHP was the congress held in July 2020.
"A PARTY EXCEEDING 6 YEARS CANNOT ENTER ELECTIONS"
Drawing attention to the Political Parties Law and party regulations, Emre expressed that congresses must be held at least every three years. Emre assessed, "If this period exceeds six years, a political party cannot enter elections. This is a very clear situation."
Claiming that the six-year period would expire as of July 2026, Emre argued that the CHP must initiate the congress process without delay.
"THIS IS AN OPERATION TO ERASE THE CHP FROM HISTORY"
Criticizing the ongoing process with harsh words, Emre said, "This is an operation to collapse and erase the Republican People's Party from history. Anyone who does not call for elections immediately, make decisions in this direction, and show willpower will be responsible for this."
"WE WILL GIVE EVERY KIND OF STRUGGLE"
Stating that the CHP would conduct a political, legal, and democratic struggle against these attempts, Emre said they would continue to be in squares and on the streets.
Emre stated, "We will engage in every kind of political, legal, and physical struggle. We will go to the squares, organize rallies, and hold marches. We will go door to door and tell citizens the truth."
