The tragic details of the horrific accident, in which a luxury car driven by a driver who lost control crashed into the concrete at the toll booths, resulted in the death of a husband and wife, are heartbreaking. It was learned that the couple was on their way back to their home in Düzce with their 5-day-old baby after going to Istanbul for the birth. The condition of the deceased couple's baby is also critical.
Selman Güngör (33), driving a luxury Mercedes car with license plate 81 DY 180, was traveling from Istanbul towards Düzce at the Akyazı toll booths on the North Marmara Highway when the vehicle lost control and crashed into the concrete barriers like an arrow.
THEY WERE RETURNING FROM BIRTH
Upon notification of the situation, health, fire, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. Health teams that arrived at the scene determined that driver Güngör had died at the scene. The driver’s wife, Yonca Haymana Güngör (33), and their 5-day-old daughter, Su Alya Güngör, who were severely injured and extracted from the vehicle, were transferred to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital. Despite all interventions, mother Güngör could not be saved and passed away.
THEY WILL BE BURIED SIDE BY SIDE
Yonca Haymana Güngör, who worked as a doctor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Düzce University Hospital and married in 2021, and her husband Selman Güngör will be buried side by side in the Köprübaşı Ömer Efendi Village Cemetery after the funeral prayer to be held today at the Merkez Büyük Mosque in Düzce.
THE BABY'S CONDITION IS SERIOUS
On the other hand, it was learned that the health condition of the 5-day-old baby girl named Su Alya Güngör, who lost her parents in the tragic accident, remains serious. In a photo taken after the accident, the detail of the baby stroller seen behind the wrecked car was heart-wrenching.
