It has been determined that the mother of the baby boy whose body was found in a freezer in Ankara last month is Gözde İ., the landlord in prison. In her statement, Gözde İ. said that she became pregnant from an extramarital relationship and gave birth at home on her own in June 2024. She claimed that she fell asleep while breastfeeding the baby, and when she woke up 7-8 hours later, the baby was lying lifeless and purple.
About a month ago, Gözde İ. (31), who was arrested for the crime of "drug and stimulant trafficking" and sent to prison, was discovered by her relatives on June 23 while cleaning her home in the Etimesgut district, where they found the lifeless body of a male baby in the deep freezer. Police and health teams were dispatched to the address following a tip-off and conducted an investigation in the house.
THE BABY'S MOTHER TURNED OUT TO BE THE LANDLORD IN PRISON
The lifeless body of the male baby, believed to be 2 months old, was taken to the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute morgue after the investigation. A DNA test was conducted with a sample taken from the baby and Gözde İ., who is in prison. The DNA test confirmed that Gözde İ. is the mother of the baby.
THE BABY'S BODY HAD BEEN IN THE DEEP FREEZER FOR ABOUT A YEAR
Gözde İ. was questioned in prison regarding the incident. Gözde İ. stated that she became pregnant from a relationship outside of marriage, did not go to the hospital during her pregnancy, and that no one noticed because of her overweight build. She claimed that while sitting at home in June 2024, labor began, and she gave birth on her own, losing a lot of blood.
"WHEN I WOKE UP 7-8 HOURS LATER, THE BABY WAS BLUE"
In her continued statement, Gözde İ. mentioned that after giving birth, she moved to the sofa in the living room with the baby, fell asleep from exhaustion while breastfeeding, and when she woke up 7-8 hours later, the baby was lying there blue and breathless, suggesting that this might have happened because she could have rolled over onto the baby.
THEY CONTINUED THEIR NORMAL LIVES WITH HER ROOMMATE
Gözde İ. stated that they bought a new refrigerator after the one in the house broke down, and while transferring items to the new refrigerator, her roommate, with whom she started living later, also saw the baby. She explained the situation in detail and told her roommate that she should not tell anyone about the baby, to which her roommate responded with 'okay' and they continued their normal lives. Gözde İ. also claimed that she explained the situation to A., whom she alleged to be the baby's father. Gözde İ.'s friend and A. denied having any knowledge of the baby. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
