The co-chairs of the DEM Party Group, Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli, requested the opening of a General Discussion in the Parliament for the immediate release of former HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş and other politicians detained in the Kobani case, by implementing the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that the detention of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş was a violation of rights for political purposes, and decided that Turkey must pay 55,000 Euros in compensation.
REQUEST FOR A "GENERAL MEETING" FROM DEM PARTY Following the development, DEM Party group vice presidents Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli requested a "General Meeting" in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for the immediate release of former Demirtaş and other politicians detained in the Kobani Case, by implementing the ECHR decisions.
DEM Party group vice presidents Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit and Sezai Temelli "DETAINEES MUST BE IMMEDIATELY RELEASED" The petition submitted to the Presidency of the TBMM included the following views: "All these developments within the scope of the Kobane Conspiracy Case not only reveal individual injustices but also demonstrate that the law has been politicized in Turkey, that the independence of the judiciary has been lost, and that political opposition is being suppressed through judicial means. The severity of the sentences, the delay in the reasoned decision, and the fact that politicians detained on similar charges are still in prison indicate the existence of a practice of political hostage-taking rather than legal issues. The ECHR clearly characterizes such practices as 'systematic abuse of rights.' Therefore, it is necessary to reassess the situation of all politicians who are being tried and detained in this case, especially Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş, within the framework of both Turkey's domestic law and the international human rights treaties to which it is a party, to thoroughly discuss the allegations that these cases are conducted for political motives, and to take the necessary steps without delay to end unlawful detention situations in accordance with the ECHR decision, and to immediately release the detainees."
