Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, known for predicting the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, sparked controversy with his statements during a visit to a construction company. He stated, "In well-executed projects like this, nothing of disaster proportions will happen," which led to criticism that he was promoting the company. Many, including journalist Sevilay Yılman, argued that Görür has turned the fear of earthquakes into a source of profit.
The earthquakes that have become a constant agenda in Turkey have made the statements of experts even more critical, while Prof. Dr. Naci Görür has recently found himself at the center of an unexpected debate. Gaining great respect for predicting the Kahramanmaraş earthquake and frequently drawing attention to the expected major earthquake in Marmara, Görür has recently come into the spotlight due to his visit to a construction company.
"IN SUCH WELL-DONE PROJECTS..."
During a project presentation of a construction company, Görür was seen stating, "In such well-done projects, nothing of disaster magnitude will happen," praising the project. These remarks led to accusations of "advertising" in the public eye. As the footage quickly spread on social media, many users criticized Görür for "supporting commercial projects by exploiting the fear of earthquakes."
SEVILAY YILMAN'S HARSH CRITICISM
Journalist Sevilay Yılman also expressed her reaction to the issue on social media. In her post, Yılman stated, "Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, who continues to claim that a very large earthquake is expected in Istanbul, has appeared in an advertisement to promote the Sancaktepe Japanese Housing, which boasts earthquake resistance. Coincidentally, the construction company belongs to Yoshinori Moriwaki, who shares the same thesis as Görür. The square meter prices of the residences are jaw-dropping. Isn't it a beautiful world?"
THE EMPHASIS ON "PROFIT" CAUGHT ATTENTION
Yılman also argued that the fear of earthquakes has been turned into a tool for profit, emphasizing that individuals with no other purpose than the truth have been overlooked in this process.
HIS LAST STATEMENT: A MAJOR EARTHQUAKE WILL OCCUR
As discussions among experts continued following the earthquakes in Istanbul, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made a notable statement. In the program he attended, Görür said, "In my view, there is only one opinion. A major earthquake will occur in Marmara. These earthquakes have brought forward the possibility of a major earthquake. It has deepened and accelerated the stress accumulation area. There is 40 kilometers, even 50 kilometers of the Kumburgaz fault that has not broken. Only a 20-kilometer section has broken. Marmara must break. Let’s not deceive ourselves. I don’t want people to die. We must speak the scientific truths. If there is an opposing view, let them come and present their data to me."
