The late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder was bid farewell on his final journey. Before the funeral prayer, the imam shared a brief dialogue he had with Önder a few years ago at a funeral.
A memorial ceremony was held at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) for Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away in the hospital where he was receiving treatment. The ceremony was attended by many of his loved ones, friends, politicians, and figures from the art community. After the ceremony, the funeral prayer was held at the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque in Levent, following the afternoon prayer. The crowd that filled the mosque courtyard bid farewell to Sırrı Süreyya Önder with tears and prayers.

Attending the funeral prayer were the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Co-Chair of the DEM Party Tuncer Bakırhan, Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and MHP Istanbul Deputy Celal Adan, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Former Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca, Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Former CHP Chairman Altan Öymen, former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan, New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan, Deputy Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Nuri Aslan, DEM Party member Ahmet Türk, numerous deputies from various parties, singer İbrahim Tatlıses, director Yılmaz Erdoğan, and many artists and citizens.
THE IMAM SHARED HIS MEMORY OF ÖNDER
The imam recounted his memory of Önder:
"I met Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder a couple of years ago at a funeral. While we were chatting here, Önder looked at the coffin and asked me, 'Isn't everything that the whole world says just about taking a shroud and leaving?' The answer to this question lies here today in this place. He gives the answer in the best way from the funeral platform. Everyone remembers him as a good and kind person."
After asking for permission, the imam posed the question, "Do you witness that he is loved by everyone, Sırrı Abe?"
THE FUNERAL PRAYER WAS CONDUCTED BY İHSAN ELİAÇIK BASED ON HIS LAST WISH
After seeking permission, the funeral prayer was conducted. The funeral prayer was led by İhsan Eliaçık based on Önder's last wish.
Önder's coffin was placed in the funeral vehicle and taken to Zincirlikuyu Cemetery amidst a crowd. Önder's remains were laid to rest in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery, accompanied by the tears of his family and loved ones.
