IMPORT OF FROZEN CHICKEN PRODUCTS BANNED IN IRAQ
The Iraqi government has intervened in its import policy. In a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, it was reported that the import of frozen chicken and parts, as well as all chicken products, has been banned. The statement noted that the decision was made "in line with the proposal presented by Minister of Agriculture Abbas Jebir al-Maliki, as part of the policy to protect local producers and the poultry sector."
WILL COME INTO EFFECT AFTER 45 DAYS
In the statement, it was mentioned that the decision of the Council of Ministers' Economic Council has been approved, and in order to allow the relevant institutions to take the necessary measures, the decision will come into effect 45 days after its publication date. According to official data, there are approximately 1,200 chicken farms across Iraq (excluding the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government). About 500 of these farms are egg production facilities, while 700 are broiler chicken production facilities.
