Türkan İşbilir, a 95-year-old woman living in Adana, filed a complaint claiming that the land she inherited from her father was forcibly sold by her grandson and daughter. The elderly woman stated that her grandson and daughter first deceived her by saying they would give her 10 apartments on the land, but it was sold at the land registry for 17 million lira, saying, 'That land was inherited from my father; I went hungry and thirsty for years but never sold a single inch of it. Why do children do this? 13 million of the money was spent in 20 days.'
G.K., the grandchild of 95-year-old Türkan İşbilir, who lives in Adana and has 5 children, allegedly came to her grandmother in May and said, "Grandma, a contractor will buy your land in Şambayadı District for 10 apartments. Let's sell it." The elderly woman did not accept this offer. However, on May 15, G.K., together with her aunt E.E., came to her grandmother again, persuaded her to sell the land for 10 apartments, and after giving her injections, took the elderly woman to the hospital to obtain a mental health report, then took her grandmother to the land registry office and ensured the land was sold to a person named İ.Ö.
"THEY TOOK 17 MILLION LIRA INSTEAD OF 10 APARTMENTS"
After the signatures were made, İ.Ö. gave the elderly woman some cash and later sent the remaining amount to the bank account where the elderly woman received her retirement pension. Upon this, Türkan İşbilir asked her grandchild, "Weren't we supposed to get 10 apartments? Where did this money come from?" However, according to the allegations, her grandchild and daughter again answered the elderly woman, "We canceled the apartment deal, we took the money," and took the bag full of money. Later, her grandchild and daughter took the elderly woman home, first confiscated the bank card she used to withdraw her pension, then activated mobile banking on their own phones and left the house.
13 MILLION OF THE 17 MILLION WAS SPENT
The elderly woman, who lost 2 children in previous years and has 2 disabled children, could not tell anyone about this situation because she does not know how to use a mobile phone. During this time, her grandchild G.K. and daughter E.E. spent 13 million of the 17 million lira within about 20 days by shopping online, buying gold from a jeweler, shopping at a tobacco retailer, and purchasing various products from technology companies.
HER OTHER GRANDCHILD REVEALED THE FRAUD
During Eid al-Adha, when Cemile Akkanat and her brother Cengiz Akkanat, grandchildren of Türkan İşbilir from her deceased children, came to visit their grandmother, the elderly woman told her grandchildren what she had experienced. When Cemile Akkanat asked her aunt E.E. and cousin G.K. why they did this, she was assaulted.
THEY HIRED A LAWYER AND FILED A COMPLAINT
After Eid al-Adha, the family took their grandmother with them, hired a lawyer, and then went to the prosecutor's office to file a complaint against E.E. and G.K. Before the judicial recess, a precautionary measure was first placed on Türkan İşbilir's bank account. Currently, the court will have the final say between the parties.
"THEY DECEIVED ME"
Türkan İşbilir, telling her experiences to an İHA reporter, said, "My grandchild came to me on the day of the incident. They came, gave me two injections, took me crying to the hospital first and then to the land registry office. I pressed my fingerprint at the registry, they gave me money. When I mentioned the apartments, they said we canceled that deal, we took the money. They deposited 17 million lira. They deceived me, I pressed my fingerprint, my property and my soul are gone."
"WHY DO MY CHILDREN DO THIS"
İşbilir, stating that the land came from her father and that she has not sold it for years, said, "That place was inherited from my father, I went hungry and thirsty for years but I never sold even a piece of it. I ate grass mixed into bread, but they did this to me. Why do my children do this."
"WE FILED A COMPLAINT, THEY THREATENED US"
Cengiz Akkanat, explaining that his grandmother was defrauded, said, "Even when my grandmother was pressing her fingerprint at the land registry, it was stated for 10 apartments, but later it turned into money. My aunt and cousin made an agreement with intermediaries. 17 million lira was deposited into my grandmother's account and that money was spent in various places. We filed a complaint against my cousin, and they threatened us."
"THEY MADE SPENDING EXCEEDING 1 MILLION DAILY"
The family's lawyer, Ömer Demir, said, "The family contacted me and said that after the land was sold, the money that came into the account was spent through various transactions. The matter has now been referred to the judiciary. On May 15, 17 million lira came into the account, and by June 10, 13 million of the money was spent. Sometimes daily spending exceeded 500 thousand, sometimes 1 million."
The grandchild G.K., reached by the İHA reporter, did not accept the allegations against him and claimed that the money was spent by his aunt E.E. and her husband. G.K. stated that because he had won a large amount from a game of chance, his family exploited him, slandered him to get money, and said he went to the prosecutor's office to file a complaint. E.E. could not be reached.
