Following the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 19, protests continue across the country, particularly in Istanbul. In addition to the measures taken, the Istanbul Governorship announced that some roads have been closed to traffic.
The Istanbul Governorship announced that some metro lines and roads would be closed to traffic for 4 days between March 19-23. In addition to the measures taken by the governorship, it was announced that some roads would be closed between 2:00 PM on March 21, Friday, and 2:00 PM on March 22, Saturday.
The roads to be closed to traffic are as follows:
- Fevzipaşa Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Macar Kardeşler Street and all roads leading to this street,
- 15 July Martyrs Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Şehzadebaşı Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Vezneciler Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Atatürk Boulevard and all roads leading to this street,
- Sahil Kennedy Street (between Samatya and Sirkeci) and all roads leading to this street,
- Reşadiye Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Ragıp Gümüşpala Street and all roads leading to this street,
- Galata Bridge and all roads leading to this street,
- Atatürk Bridge and all roads leading to this street.

PROTESTS PROHIBITED ON MARCH 19
The Istanbul Governorship also announced that protests were banned across the city for 4 days on the day İmamoğlu was detained. The statement from the Istanbul Governorship included the following: "To maintain public order throughout the province and to prevent any provocative actions that may occur, all kinds of meetings, demonstrations, and press statements are prohibited for 4 days between March 19-23."
In addition, entrances and exits to Taksim metro were closed, Taksim Square was surrounded by barricades, and intense security measures were taken.
