The Kop Mountain Tunnel project, which was initiated in 2012 and promised to be completed within 3 years, has not been completed despite the passage of 13 years.
4 MINISTERS CHANGED, THE TUNNEL IS NOT FINISHED
Launched by the then Minister of Transport Binali Yıldırım, the project has not been resolved despite many changes in ministers over the years. The ongoing works during the terms of Ahmet Arslan, Mehmet Cahit Turhan, Adil Karaismailoğlu, and most recently Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, have not made progress due to the disruptions experienced. Citizens have called on the authorities, stating that Bayburt Group Construction Company is deliberately prolonging the process and not making the necessary investments. The transportation difficulties experienced, especially in winter months, pose a significant problem for drivers.
TWO GOVERNORS CONDUCTED INSPECTIONS, NO DEADLINE GIVEN FOR COMPLETION
Bayburt Governor Mustafa Eldivan and Erzurum Governor Mustafa Çiftçi conducted inspections at the Kop Tunnel, which is under construction at the Kop Mountain Pass connecting the provinces of Bayburt and Erzurum.
The governors, who received information about the current status of the works from Fatih Günaydın, the Director of Highways 12th Region, and officials from the contracting company, evaluated the activities carried out in the tunnel construction on-site.
It was stated that the works are being carried out intensively and that all processes are being meticulously conducted to put the tunnel into service as soon as possible.
MINISTER URALOĞLU SAID "IT WILL BE COMPLETED IN 2027"
In recent months, during inspections at the ongoing Kop Tunnel construction, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the project would be completed in 2027, announcing that the travel time would decrease from 55 minutes to 15 minutes thanks to the tunnel.
