A simultaneous operation was carried out against the Barış Turgut Organized Crime Group, which had 10 billion 761 million TL in account transactions over the past 5 years, as part of a police operation in Mersin. Out of the 38 suspects captured, 17 were arrested. The police investigation revealed that the organized crime group aimed to take control of the lavash bread market throughout the city.
The Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with the Provincial Police Department's Organized Crime Unit, conducted a planned operation against the Barış Turgut Organized Crime Group, which is involved in various actions ranging from shooting, injury, threats, to coercion.
10 BILLION TL ACCOUNT MOVEMENT
Simultaneous operations were carried out at the addresses identified in the planned operation. A total of 38 suspects were arrested, including the leader of the organization. 23 vehicles identified as obtained from the crime and 85 bank accounts with a total account movement of 10 billion 761 million TL within 5 years were seized, along with 1 long-barreled weapon, 5 unlicensed pistols, and 1 unlicensed shotgun.
17 SUSPECTS ARRESTED
As a result of the operations, 17 suspects, including the leader, were arrested by the courts they were brought before, 19 of them were subjected to judicial control measures, and the procedures for the others are ongoing.
THEIR AIM IS TO TAKE OVER THE LAVAŞ BREAD MARKET
On the other hand, it was revealed that the organized crime group's aim was to take over the lavash bread market across the city. For this reason, it was determined that the organization threatened and pressured businesses producing lavash bread, was involved in 2 injury incidents, and carried out 10 shooting incidents against workplaces.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also shared the details of the operation, stating, "We have no tolerance for criminal organizations that are arrogant in crime and see themselves above the law! To establish peace, we continue our fight against organized crime structures 365 days a year, day and night, without distinguishing between place, time, and space," and congratulated the teams.
