Lawyer Büşra Teksöğüt, who went to Şanlıurfa to carry out seizure procedures in order to collect a confirmed debt, was followed and attacked by the debtor. Teksöğüt, who was seriously injured in the attack she experienced on January 9 of last year and received treatment in the hospital for 2.5 months, stated, "I underwent 3 surgeries, and my surgeries are still ongoing."

On January 9, 2024, trainee lawyer Büşra Teksöğüt, who went to collect a confirmed receivable from Istanbul to Şanlıurfa, was assaulted by Ahmet E. during the seizure proceedings. After leaving the house where she was with the police and enforcement officers, Teksöğüt was followed by Ahmet E. in the minibus she boarded and was assaulted once again. Teksöğüt, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance, suffered broken legs. She underwent three surgeries on her leg, the first of which was in Şanlıurfa. Teksöğüt, who is still undergoing physical therapy, filed a complaint against Ahmet E. The attacker will appear before a judge in Şanlıurfa on February 28.

"THIS PROCESS HAS AFFECTED ME PSYCHOLOGICALLY"

Trainee lawyer Büşra Teksöğüt said, "In January of last year, I went to the Suruç district of Urfa to collect a confirmed receivable. I completed my transactions. Later, on my way back, I was followed. I learned that I was being followed after the attack. I was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. I was attacked by the debtor I went to for seizure proceedings. I had a 2.5-month hospital stay and spent months recovering at home. I underwent three surgeries. My surgeries are still ongoing. I have plates in my leg, and I have lost certain tissues. This process has, of course, affected me a lot psychologically. My health problems are still ongoing, and my treatment process is still continuing. The main issue here was that the attack was directed against a profession, a lawyer, and a woman," she said.

"I WILL HAVE A HEARING ON FEBRUARY 28"

Teksöğüt stated, "After the attack on me, the judicial process also came into play during my hospital stay. During the trial process, I faced charges of 'attempted murder', 'attempted murder of a public official', and 'qualified robbery'; currently, the case is ongoing for 'damaging property', 'resisting the execution of duty', and 'intentional injury'. I will have my first hearing in Şanlıurfa on February 28. I invite all bar presidents, especially the Turkish Bar Association, and all sensitive colleagues to stand by me during the trial process. Because what we need to understand here is that the incident was not just an attack on me, but an attack on a lawyer, the profession, and the defense office. It was an act that undermined the respect of citizens for the defense office. Everyone has the right to defense, but citizens often identify the lawyer with the case file and harbor resentment and hatred towards them. Therefore, I invite everyone to be sensitive," she expressed.

"ANOTHER LAWYER WAS STABBED IN THREE PLACES"

Teksöğüt said, "Indeed, the person who attacked me stabbed another lawyer in three different places a month after being released. I believe that serious measures need to be taken to prevent all of this. For me, it was a professional act I performed every day. I had already been in contact with the assailant's relatives. There were many police officers with me. It was also an action carried out through an enforcement officer. So, I never expected that I would be followed later, that it would be planned, that they would come with me for kilometers to the center, and that I would be suddenly attacked. I still experience the consequences of this anger directed at me. I experience it both psychologically and physically. Since the date of the attack until now, I have received significant support from the previous president, Lawyer Filiz Saraç. She supported me during the health phase and the treatment process, and she continues to support me. I believe I will also receive the same support and assistance from the new board of the Istanbul Bar Association; our discussions are ongoing," she said.
