As the number of shopping malls in Turkey continues to increase, sparking debate, the license for Citymall Shopping Mall has been revoked following the Council of State's decision that "shopping malls cannot be built in cultural areas."
While the rapidly increasing shopping mall projects have continued to create discussions, following the Council of State's decision that "shopping malls cannot be built in cultural areas," the Atakum Municipality in Samsun canceled the licenses of the businesses in CITYMALL shopping mall and sent notifications to the tradesmen.

Deputy Mayor Suat Yıldız stated that the licenses have been canceled, saying, "We do not have the authority to seal the shopping mall. This process will be carried out by the metropolitan municipality."

Isak Memişoğlu, a member of the Architects' Chamber Urban Monitoring Committee, expressed that he found the decision appropriate, stating, "The main issue is to complete this process. The primary task is zoning; that is, the demolition of this building."
