The meaningful response to Özel, who said, "Hatay is my personal issue."

The meaningful response to Özel, who said,

11.10.2024 18:50

The Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, reacted strongly to CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's statement during his visit to Hatay, where he said, "We will not let Hatay be forgotten." Minister Kurum stated, "Hatay is entrusted to us. Hatay is entrusted to our state. We will protect this trust as if it were our own eyes; we are not among those who come there, take selfies, and leave."

Recently, in his visit to Hatay, the leader of the main opposition party CHP, Özgür Özel, stated, "Hatay is my personal issue. We will not be absent from Hatay, we will announce your name to all of Turkey again." In response, the Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, addressed these remarks.

Minister Kurum, speaking at the "Social Housing and Urban Transformation Projects Key Delivery Ceremony" in Başakşehir, mentioned that he has visited the earthquake-affected region dozens of times in the past three months since he took office.

Kurum expressed that while they are working hard to erase all traces of the earthquake, they have been subjected to unjust accusations from CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, stating, "He visited Hatay and said he would not let Hatay be forgotten, claiming 'Hatay is my personal issue.' However, it is they who left Hatay alone after the earthquake."

'Hatay is my personal issue' Özel's significant response

"WE ARE NOT AMONG THOSE WHO COME THERE, TAKE A SELFIE, AND LEAVE"

Minister Kurum stated, "Those who spread hope to the people of Hatay and the earthquake region, only to let that hope go to waste, are themselves." He continued:

"Remember, they said, 'We will build houses in the earthquake zone and distribute them for free to our people,' but they did not hammer a single nail, did not establish a single home, and did not bring a smile to a single child's face. They did not dry the tears of a single mother or father. Not only did they not build a single home, but they also refrained from restoring the Ulu Mosque they promised. I express this from here: Mr. Özgür Özel, Hatay is not ownerless. Hatay is entrusted to us. Hatay is entrusted to our state, and Hatay is entrusted to our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We will protect this trust as if it were our own eyes; we are not among those who come there, take a selfie, and leave. We came there on February 6 and made promises to our nation; we are working day and night to keep those promises. We have never left the earthquake zone after giving empty promises. Whatever we said, whatever came out of our mouths, we have united to fulfill that and deliver it to our citizens. When 2025 comes, even if they do not build the Ulu Mosque, we will. Even if they turn their backs on that region, we will continue to embrace the earthquake zone and help it stand up again."

RECOMMENDED ÖZGÜR ÖZEL TO MAKE IZMIR HIS PERSONAL ISSUE URGENTLY

Kurum stated that he recommends CHP Chairman Özgür Özel to urgently make İzmir his personal issue, noting that the İzmir Bay is decaying today, fish are dying, oxygen levels are decreasing, and the bad smell is driving the residents crazy.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum said that the CHP-led İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has been looking up at the sky and whistling for years, failing to fulfill its responsibilities.

Kurum stated, "If you are going to make it a personal issue, make the future of our İzmir brothers your issue. Sit down to solve the problems of İzmir, which you have managed for 25 years, and hold tightly to the hand we have extended, and pursue what can be done for the future of İzmir."
