Seventy-year-old Yaşar Uzun, who was receiving treatment in the Cardiovascular Surgery Department of Amasya University Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Training and Research Hospital, passed away on March 30.
HE DONATED ALL HIS ASSETS TO THE MEHMETÇIK FOUNDATION
The hospital staff, who collected the belongings of the man with no relatives, found a handwritten note titled "This is my will." It was revealed that the note was written 11 years ago and that the elderly man donated the money in his bank account as well as his house located in Gökmedrese Neighborhood to the Mehmetçik Foundation. In the note written by Uzun, it was seen that he wanted the money to be used for funeral expenses. Amasya Governor Önder Bakan, who was informed of the situation, ensured that the funeral prayer was held at the Sultan II. Bayezid Mosque, the largest place of worship in the city, with the saying "The state is the guardian of the orphans," instead of the funeral home’s garden. After the funeral prayer, which was attended by Governor Bakan, Uzun was sent off on his final journey.
"HE IS NOW A MEMBER OF THE MEHMETÇIK FOUNDATION FAMILY"
Mehmetçik Foundation Samsun Representative Retired Colonel Mehmet Ocak stated that they took action upon learning about the meaningful donation from the press, saying, "He mentioned in his will that he was alone. However, he is now a member of the Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation family. For this purpose, we had his grave built. Our prayers are with Mr. Yaşar. May Allah be pleased with him," he said.
Gökmedrese Neighborhood Muhtar Cem Yeni also thanked the foundation officials who quickly built the grave of Yaşar Uzun, whom they knew as a beloved figure in the neighborhood. A Quran was recited and prayers were made at the grave in Memi Dede Cemetery with the participation of Amasya Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Senior Colonel Ramazan Yiğit.
